The chapter once again opens with one of Frederick’s dreams/visions. The first thing the boy sees is his own brother, Nigel, wounded and starts remembering the coachman’s words. The young boy then notices, in his dreams, his sister Miriam standing all alone and surrounded by darkness. Frederick asks her what she’s been doing there and invites her to go back home with him. Miriam, though, starts acting in a strange manner and begs Frederick to “make It stop”. After this, a bunch of hands start emerging from the dark and grab Miriam’s head, dragging her into the shadows. As Frederick runs towards her, in order to save her, Miriam’s pendant falls onto the ground while the girl vanishes in the dark.
The turquoise-haired boy opens his eyes and finds himself tucked into a comfortable bed. A young lady welcomes him in the mansion and tells him what happened. Still quite confused on the matter, Frederick politely asks the maid to go away and proceeds to wake his little brother up. The owner of the mansion, who also happens to be Frederick and Nigel’s savior, shows up and greets the two. The noble man introduces himself as ‘Lord Kingstone’ and tells the brothers what exactly happened the night prior.
Kingstone also reveals that he and his wife, lady Kingstone, would be glad to let them stay as much as they wanted, since their two children had died. Frederick almost refuses the man’s invitation, but Nigel immediately interrupts his brother and agrees to stay.
Frederick and Nigel’s lives finally seem to be changing for the better, as the two are taken in by lord Kingstone and educated by him and his wife. Three years pass and the brothers are still happily living in Kingstone’s mansion, dedicating themselves to leisure activities, as well as studying and managing the economy of the properties.
Their happy lives, though, are bound to change again: during their usual afternoon stroll, the brothers start talking to one another. Frederick points out how, even though three years have passed since then, he still can’t help but think about Drake and Miriam’s fate. He recalls the incident and explains that he still feels guilty for not being able to save them, to which Nigel replies that he should not put the blame on anyone but fate. Nigel also suggests to let go of the past and move
on, as their future seems to be much brighter. It is at that moment that the two brothers are met by a strange individual who offers to “help them”. The man, standing beneath a willow tree, starts teasing Frederick and tells him that he knows where Drake and Miriam currently are.
The turquoise-haired young man approaches the individual carefully and refuses to believe him. After a while, the man states that he will only speak if Frederick is able to defeat him. A fight ensues and Frederick is forced to take action quickly. Nigel chooses not to engage in the confrontation, but tries to warn his brother of the man’s attacks. The mysterious individual starts summoning roots from the ground, which Frederick is able to avoid, but he soon gets his back elbowed by the former. Bruised and battered, Frederick falls to the ground, pitifully staring at a pool of his own blood.
His determination, though, did not fade away and the young man dashes towards the enemy with the intention of punching him in the face. The man with the strange eye, seems to be able to see the future and thus predict Frederick’s moves. However, the young man is able to fool his opponent by kicking him instead of punching him, subverting the man’s expectations. Thought not able to understand how it happened, the individual falls to the ground and decides to stop the fight. He introduces himself as “Kay Hole”, a bounty hunter who had been spying on them for quite some time. After the brief introduction ends, Frederick is still not willing to trust him, to which the man replies by exhibiting Miriam’s pendant. Baffled and in utter disbelief, Frederick starts gaining hope of being able to save Miriam and Drake, even though three years had passed. Overwhelmed by his own emotions, the young man falls on his knees and starts crying. Kay looks at him, with the rays of the sun on his back and invites Frederick to stand up, as his adventure has just begun.
EXTRA SCENE: Meanwhile, in an unknown location, a storm is ensuing. A man starts walking up a staircase in a pitch black castle and makes his way to the top. The man looks at his own reflection in the window, while lightning strikes the ground, and he’s revealed to be Drake.
